MARK JOHNSON PhD CPhys CEng FInstP

CV & EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
Mark Johnson obtained a First Class BSc in Physics and a PhD in planar optical waveguide technology from University College London.

As post-doctoral scientist at the Max-Planck Institut für Festkörperforschung in Stuttgart, and as a permanent staff member of IBM’s Thomas Watson Research Center in New York, he developed innovative applications of optics to manufacturing diagnostics and control.

From 1993-2000, as manager of an R&D team at United Utilities, he introduced a palette of new techniques in optics, acoustics, electro-chemistry, video-processing and electronics to aid problem diagnosis and process control of water treatment systems.

Since 2000 he has worked as an independent consultant, providing strategic and design expertise in photonics technology, analytical testing and on-line process control, to customers in the UK, France and Germany. Through visiting professorships at Salford and St. Etienne universities, he maintains currency in leading edge technologies.

MAIN AREAS OF EXPERTISE

Opto-electronic and photonic measurement and control systems

Creative design for product development

Analog/digital opto-electronics for precision measurement.
